I gave this to my husband for his birthday, and he was blown away. He'd never seen one before. He actually took it straight outside to try it, as soon as he opened it. He has used it several times in the month that he has had it, and it performs very well. I feel like a really good gift-finder this year! He says the thing he likes best about it, is that it is very versatile. It's great for any job you'd use a machete for, except it's more balanced, and you don't tire as easily. Yes it holds a good strong cutting edge on both the blade and hook. What I do not like is the fact that it slips out of my hand when attempting to cut brier bushes. I planned on putting good old tire tape on the handle, but tried to cut grooves in the handle, which helps a little. I also replaced the chord with rope that acts as something to help pull the hook/blade and does not get caught up in thorns from briers. Is it the best cutting tool for the money? Perhaps, I was just surprised that you have been making them right here in PA for so long and have not addressed these two problems. thanks

A quality product from a great online store. Fast shipping even during the holidays. The only drawback to the Woodsman's Pal is the wood handle get slick after a few minutes of use but that is fixed with a good pair of gloves.

This machete is very well made and heavy enough to do real work. The vine cutting hook is nice too, especially if there are thorns. I would have given it 5 stars, but I had to sharpen it more before it would cut well.

I like it except the wooden handle has a smooth grip which may be an issue if your hand is damp or sweaty.
